Unlike other manufacturers, Mountain Red Grape Extract Ultra + R is produced using extracts that have themselves been extracted using only water as an extraction solvent. What this means is that no harsh chemicals or solvents are used at any stage of the production process.  Starting with the best grapes in the world, Mountain Red Grape Extract Ultra + R is extracted using this 100% natural extraction process that uses only water to extract the bioactives from the fruit. Freeze drying of the final product ensures the activity of the extract is maintained and not destroyed. Mountain Red Grape Extract Ultra + R is 100 % natural and not like other extracts that have had a solvent extraction and/or a chemically concentrated spray dry. This is critical as it allows for the health-giving properties from the grape skin and seeds to maintain their bioactivity and bioavailability (cell uptake). What is a Grape Extract?

While grapes contain a range of healthy components recent interest has focused on their antioxidant properties.  Most of the antioxidants in grapes are found in the seeds and in a concentrated form in the grapes skin.  Mountain Red Grape Extract Ultra + R is a naturally occurring plant substance that contains a rich concentrated source of antioxidant nutrients known polyphenols due to their chemical structures with hydroxyl (OH) groups attached.  Two examples of the types of polyphenols that are found in Mountain Red Grape Extract Ultra + R are epicatechin and epicatechin gallate.  It is the OH groups attached to the ring structures that react with free radicals and detoxify them.  Most of the polyphenolic compounds in Mountain Red Grape Ultra + R consist of two or more epicatechin or epicatechin gallate monomers joined together.  These compounds are call proanthocyanidins.

When the proanthocyanidins consist of many monomers joined together, the molecule is call an oligomeric proanthocyanidin or an OPC.  These antioxidants help to protect the body against the effects of internal and external stresses by acting as free radical scavengers in the body. Scientists have demonstrated that OPCs, are more powerful antioxidants than vitamins C, E and beta-carotene and are one of the few sources found naturally in nature.

How Mountain Red Grape Extract Ultra + R works

The OPC’s found in Mountain Red Grape Extract Ultra + R work in a number of ways due to the uniquely high polyphenol levels.  Mountain Red Grape Extract has a very high antioxidant activity (ORAC) rating, this compound is unique in its ability to drastically reduce the oxidative stress within the body.  The antioxidant activity in Mountain Red Grape Ultra + R is extremely high, with an ORAC of 6600 mmol Trolox Equivalents/g in comparison to Vitamin C that has an ORAC of 1800 mmol Trolox Equivalents/g

The trans Resveratrol and other antioxidants, are extracted from New Zealand red and white grape extracts rather than imported Japanese Giant Knotweed root. The grapes are grown under a sustainable viticulture programme that ensures that only sustainably managed sources are used in the production of the product. In addition each batch of product is tested to ensure that it is free from any potentially harmful residues.

Superior New Zealand Grapes

Due to the hole in the ozone layer directly overhead, New Zealand’s sunlight has extremely high levels of UV. Grapes grown here have adapted by producing exceptionally high levels of natural bioactives in their skin and seeds. The seeds of Marlborough’s sauvignon blanc grapes have a much higher level of antioxidants than seeds from other grape varieties from around the world.

In addition the use of unfermented pinot noir skins ensures that all the bioactives are retained in the skin and have not leached out during processing. Normal red wine making involves pressing red grapes for juice, then adding back into that juice the red skins so that the antioxidant red components of the skins (tannins or phenolics) are leached out of the skins and into the juice to turn it red during fermentation. This means that the health benefits associated with the antioxidants in red wine actually come from the skins, and the skins used in this process will no longer contain these antioxidants. Since we start with unfermented red grape skins all the health-giving antioxidants are still maintained in the skins so that our Mountain Red Grape Extract contains the complete range of antioxidants. Other manufacturering uses skins that have been sourced after they have been fermented with the juice, and therefore they do not contain this complete range of antioxidants.

In addition to the high antioxidant activity of the phenolic compounds in Mountain Red Grape Ultra + R it has a greater activity than that of compounds from products that have under gone a solvent extraction and/or a chemically concentrated spray dry.  Mountain Red Grape Ultra + R is produced using only water in its extraction process.

Mountain Red Grape has an ORAC 6600 mmol Trolox Equivalents/g material and contains New Zealand trans Resveratrol. Resveratrol has been shown to help slow down the aging process and known to mimic the effects of calorie restriction as well as increasing athletic endurance and supporting cardiovascular health.

Resveratrol is a polyphenolic compound that is found naturally in our Mountain Red Grape Extract Ultra + R. There is a significant amount of interest from the scientific community because of the health virtues of Resveratrol that became apparent when the French Paradox was revisited and it was proven that red wine was an inherent part of their diet. It was discovered that the compound Resveratrol was the primary element responsible for their longevity and amazingly good health.
